Garbage Bin Rental How to tell If Your Project Needs A Rental Bin

September 27, 2022

Renting a bin can be a great way to get rid of the debris from your latest home project, but how do you know if your project actually warrants a rental? Here are four questions to ask yourself before making the decision to rent a bin.

How much debris will I generate?

This is perhaps the most important question to answer when trying to determine whether or not you need a rental bin. If you’re simply doing a bit of spring cleaning or tackling a small home improvement project, then the amount of debris you’ll generate will likely be manageable and a bin may not be necessary. On the other hand, if you’re taking on a larger project like renovating your kitchen or tearing down a shed, then you’ll likely generate more waste and a bin will be helpful in containing it all.

Can my regular garbage service handle the increased volume?

If you generate more waste than usual, your regular garbage service may not be able to accommodate it all. This is especially true if your municipality has weight restrictions on trash pickups. In this case, it may make sense to rent a bin so you can put all of the debris in one place and have it hauled away at the end of your project.

What type of debris will I be dealing with?

The type of debris you’re dealing with will also play a role in deciding whether or not to rent a bin. If you’re dealing with light materials like paper or cardboard, then chances are your regular garbage service can handle it. However, if you’re dealing with heavier materials like concrete or lumber, then renting a bin is probably your best bet as these items may be too heavy for your regular garbage collectors to take.

How long will my project take?

The length of time your project will take is also worth considering when deciding whether or not to rent a bin. If your project will span several weeks or even months, then renting a bin can provide you with a convenient place to store debris until it’s ready to be hauled away. On the other hand, if your project is only going to take a day or two, then chances are you won’t need a rental bin as the amount of debris generated will likely be manageable.
